Beware of Scams. Protect Your Personal Information!

Criminals sometimes claim to represent health insurance companies like ConnectiCare in attempts to scam people.

Here are a few tips for keeping your information safe:

  • Never give a credit or debit card or bank account number to anyone who calls claiming to be from ConnectiCare. The only way we collect payment by phone is by using an automated interactive voice response (IVR) system. Member services representatives cannot take payment information.*

  • Don’t trust anyone who calls or comes to your door and claims to need your Social Security number, banking or credit card information, or other personal information. Even if they tell you that you could lose your insurance coverage.

  • Don’t click on links or attachments to emails unless you’re absolutely sure of the source. If in doubt, delete the email and call the company it purported to represent.

  • Don’t use telephone numbers or websites given to you by unsolicited phone callers. Look up official numbers and websites on communications you’ve received from ConnectiCare or other companies you do business with.

  • If you are suspicious of a caller or visitor, hang up or ask them to leave. Then, report them to the state Department of Insurance or the Attorney General’s office.

If you want to report a possible fraud or scam related to your health insurance, contact our Special Investigations Unit (SIU) hotline at 888-4KO-FRAUD (888-456-3728) or send an email to kofraud@emblemhealth.com.
