Effective Jan. 1, NIA Magellan to Manage Spine Surgery and Interventional Pain Management Program for Medicare Plans

11/02/2015

ConnectiCare is expanding its spine surgery and interventional pain management program to include members with Medicare plans starting Jan. 1, 2016. The program has been in place for commercial members since Oct. 1, 2015.

As of the new year, we will require preauthorization through NIA Magellan for the following non-emergency inpatient and outpatient procedures for all our members with Medicare plans:

  • Lumbar, cervical and thoracic spine surgery (open, closed or minimally invasive)
  • Adult deformity surgery
  • Implantable infusion pump insertion

All preauthorization requests will be reviewed by the appropriate practicing, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeons, neurosurgeons and interventional pain management specialists familiar with the surgeries and services. ConnectiCare will oversee the NIA Magellan program and continue to be responsible for claims adjudication and medical policies.
