CROMWELL, CT (July 13, 2021)– In collaboration with the Travelers Championship and through the generosity of ConnectiCare®, the non-profit Operation Shower will host a special baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be. The expecting moms are spouses or partners of deployed service members from the National Guard and local bases, including Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, or in some cases, are active duty service members themselves. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 14, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at TPC River Highlands (1 Golf Club Road, Cromwell, CT 06416).

Due to the pandemic, this will be the first in-person military baby shower conducted by Operation Shower since March 2020, and the 11th in conjunction with the Travelers Championship. Last year, a drive-through version of the event was held in Groton.

For the safety of all guests, CDC guidelines will be followed at this year’s event, with masks required for anyone not fully vaccinated (with at least two weeks having passed since the second vaccination). Special guests scheduled to attend include:

  • Captain Todd Moore, Commanding Officer at Naval Submarine Base New London
  • Nathan Grube, Travelers Championship Tournament Director
  • Joan Woodward, Executive Vice President of Public Policy for Travelers, and the President of the Travelers Institute
  • Andi Campbell, M.S. from WellSpark Health, a ConnectiCare subsidiary

“It’s a sincere privilege to share in this exciting milestone and have an opportunity to express our appreciation to all of these courageous women, whose service and sacrifice at home enable their loved ones to keep America safe and free,” said Grube. “For more than 10 years, the Travelers Championship has been honored to host this meaningful event as part of our long-standing support for our military.”

Presented by ConnectiCare with support from the Travelers Championship, Travelers and Birdies for the Brave, the “Adventure Awaits” themed event will include lunch, raffle prizes, and the presentation of Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box” gift to each of the moms. The gift box includes high-quality products that have been donated by companies including Skip Hop, ConnectiCare, Travelers, Igloo and Playtex.

Beyond the array of tangible items, the moms will receive, the most treasured gift may be the opportunity to connect with other women in the same situation, according to Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.

“Operation Shower was created because typically military moms are the ones who hold it all together at home,” said Morrissey. “Without their partners by their side, deployed to another part of the world, these moms deserve our support, our thanks, our love, and an opportunity to celebrate together. And following the isolation of COVID, we know the moms will really appreciate the chance to share friendship and camaraderie with the other moms in person.”

“Since 2014, ConnectiCare has been committed to bringing Operation Shower events to expectant moms. We’re thrilled to be able to honor these families in-person again,” said ConnectiCare President Eric Galvin. “Their service and sacrifice deserve to be recognized, and ConnectiCare is proud to celebrate them.”
