What is a Spirometry Test?
Pulmonary function testing measures how well you are breathing. There are different types of pulmonary function tests that can be done. Spirometry is one type of pulmonary function test. Spirometry is a simple, painless test to measure how much (volume) and how fast (flow) you can move air into and out of your lungs.
What happens in a Spirometry Test?
The testing machine is called a spirometer. The spirometer has a tube that you put in your mouth. Your healthcare practitioner will explain and show how to breathe through the tube. It might take you a few tries to do the test right.
What do the Results Mean?
Spirometry will show how well your lungs are working. The results will be numbers and possibly pictures. Ask your doctor to explain both to you.
