National Provider Identifier (NPI)

HIPAA Provision:

As part of the administrative simplification provision of HIPAA, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is requiring all providers who use standard electronic transactions to use an NPI. Providers who do not obtain an NPI by May 23, 2008 may be viewed in violation of this provision.

ConnectiCare Acceptance of NPI:

All participating providers should submit their NPI to ConnectiCare no later than January 1, 2008, to allow time to resolve any issues with submission that may occur prior to the May 23, 2008 deadline. NPIs should be submitted on claims along with the ConnectiCare legacy identifier (your current 6-digit ConnectiCare provider ID) until ConnectiCare notifies you that it is no longer needed.

If upon submission of your NPI you wish to change the way you currently bill (i.e., as an individual/Type 1 or as an organization/Type 2), or if you are a facility that will use multiple NPIs, you must contact your Provider Education and Service Representative, or ConnectiCare's Network Operations at (860) 674-5700, so that we can set up your NPIs accurately into our system.

Submitting Your NPI:

Submit your NPI to ConnectiCare online.
