Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) is a service provided by an electronic claim clearinghouse, which enables providers to receive an Explanation of Payment (EOP) in an electronic format. The ERA includes claim information for both paper and electronic claim submission and it enables you to automatically reconcile your patient accounts.
Currently, ConnectiCare has a relationship with WebMD so that you may take advantage of the benefits of ERA. However, we are continually exploring other electronic capabilities to best meet participating provider needs.
How Do I Get Started?
To sign up for ERA you will need to contact WebMD directly at 1-800-366-5716 (or other clearinghouse that you have already discussed with ConnectiCare). The clearinghouse can provide additional convenience to you in that they have a relationship with a number of other health plans in addition to ConnectiCare. And, once you sign on with the clearinghouse, you also have the ability of submitting claims electronically.
How Does it Work?
When you receive ERA you will need to send to the clearinghouse all claims you wish to submit to ConnectiCare. The clearinghouse will sort the claims by health plan and check the information for accuracy. The information is then forwarded to ConnectiCare. At the time of each scheduled check run, ConnectiCare submits the ERA to the clearinghouse so that they can generate the report and transmit it electronically back to you.
When Will I Start Receiving ERA?
The ERA transmission files are sent from ConnectiCare to your trading partner the day following all scheduled check runs (the paper EOP generally follows one week after the check run). However, when you first sign on to receive ERA, you will receive both a paper EOP and electronic report, until you let us know that you are comfortable with the ERA report.
