Helpful Mail Order Hints

ConnectiCare suggests the first fill of prescriptions, or of a new strength or dose, be filled at one of our local network pharmacies rather than through mail order. Why?

  • Mail order prescriptions are only for medications you are going to take for a long period of time (i.e. at least a year). With new prescriptions, or a new dose or strength, you have an increased risk of side effects or other adverse reactions that may cause you to stop the drug or not complete the prescription. ConnectiCare suggests you fill the initial prescription or two for a one-month supply at a local pharmacy.
  • Does your new medication require Prior Authorization or have a Quantity Limitation? If so, it is much more difficult to coordinate this authorization process through mail order, and delays are possible. Please check ConnectiCare's Prior Authorization List and Quantity Limitation List for your prescription drug.

Payment policy for High Dollar Mail Orders:

  • For orders of $250 or more and without a credit card on file, the mail order Customer Service Billing Department will call the member to notify them that a credit card or payment is required before their order can be released. Two more calls will be attempted and if they have not received a call back on the third day, the scripts are deleted and returned to the member.
  • For orders of $300 or more and a credit card is on file, mail order representatives will check to see if the member has a paid history. If no paid history or this is the first order, the Customer Service Billing Department will call the member for their approval to credit their charge card. If there is a paid history, they will automatically credit the credit card and ship the order, regardless of the dollar amount.
