ConnectiCare Launches Cancer Support Program

Case Management for Members from the Earliest Stages

Farmington, CT – ConnectiCare has launched a Cancer Support Program that will offer its members case management during all phases of their fight against the disease. The program is similar to the case management programs ConnectiCare currently offers to members suffering from kidney disease and heart disease or undergoing a transplant.

The program is designed to provide cancer patients with the following: education, empowerment and support as they make decisions regarding treatment and advanced care. There is also support around end of life and hospice decisions.

“We want to reach out to our members early in the process to help them through all phases of the disease,” said Kimberly Jones, Director of Health Services - Project Management &Vendor Oversight at ConnectiCare. “Our goal is to educate, answer questions, help members to identify appropriate providers, and help them cope with the emotional aspects of their condition.. This is a program not just for the members but for their families too.”

According to Dr. Paul Bluestein, Chief Medical Officer of ConnectiCare, “Management of oncology is an important building block in ConnectiCare’s long-standing strategy to provide superior case management services to members with complex illnesses. As the treatment choices for cancer – chemotherapy regimens, radiation therapy, surgery, hospice – have become broader and the decisions have become more complex, people have increasingly looked for access to reliable and current information.”

The program is available to all commercial members at no extra cost. Members can be referred to the program by a physician or enroll themselves. The case management can range from one phone conversation with a cancer-trained case manager to ongoing case management, depending on the member’s preference.
