Farmington, CT - ConnectiCare has granted $10,000 to support the efforts of the Malta House of Care Mobile Clinic. This is the second year ConnectiCare has provided a charitable grant to this non-profit.

The mobile van provides free, primary healthcare to uninsured residents within the neighborhoods of Hartford. The medical clinic is supported by volunteers from area hospitals. The program started in June 2006.

“We commend the physicians and hospital staff for volunteering their time to this worthy project,” says Mickey Herbert, President and CEO of ConnectiCare.

“The Malta House of Care is a practical, low-cost solution to providing care to people most in need. It also helps to relieve the burden of patient crowding upon Hartford’s emergency rooms. We hope more health companies will join in charitable support of this practical model to help under-served city residents.”

The van has been providing convenient access for people who are more likely to seek care through an emergency room and often have difficulty in finding transport. Physicians on the Malta Mobile Clinic make referrals for follow-up services not available on the unit. Visitors are also provided discounts to prescription drugs through Arrow Pharmacy. With increased funding the Malta House is planning to expand services to more urban locations.
