ConnectiCare Supports Big Brothers Big Sisters

Farmington, CT - ConnectiCare employees have volunteered and supported the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for the past five years.

This year, 8 employees have agreed to be a “Big” for a “Little” enrolled in the program. Yesterday, ConnectiCare Bigs traveled to the Thomas Jefferson School Elementary School in New Britain to visit their Little in school.

ConnectiCare coordinator, Kay Roberts says, “This made her week. Being a Big is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. As a Big, you get to be a kid again for an hour a week while you give a kid the invaluable gift of your friendship.”

National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. By participating in the youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork performance
  • Able to get along better with their families
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school.
